    The Border Mail

    By jade | August 12, 2008

    Hi,

Today was a memorable day - we crossed the border! Woohoo! We’re on the home stretch now :) We also fulfilled one of the Light FM challenges and ran a km with a stranger! And this stranger happened to live in Heathmont Vic, and was on holidays visiting her parents who are Pastors in Howlong! Small world, hey!

We even made it into today’s ‘Border Mail’! This is a NSW paper covering Albury Wodonga and beyond.  Page 13 says…

    PASTOR POWERING THROUGH 900km
It’s hard to believe that anyone would undertake a 900km run to raise money for charity, but belief is not something Pastor Corey Turner is short of.

He and his team of four runners are more than halfway through their incredible journey, running from Sydney to Melbourne.

There’s no two ways about it - when you run 20km a day it’s going to hurt,” Mr Turner said.

“The biggest challenge was the reality of running that distance, and getting up the next day to do it all again. It has been great so far, and it’s been an adventure. But it will be good to get home.”

There are four runners in Mr Turner’s team, taking it in turns to run two legs of 10km so the group can cover 80km each day.

From the Activate Church in Ringwood, Melbourne, Mr Turner said the money they raised would be put towards building a community centre for the suburb.

“We want to build a facility that will make a different in people’s lives,” Mr Turner said.

“We also want to raise awareness that the church is relevant and committed to helping people. The reaction has been great - at one point we were stopped and someone wrote out a $1000 cheque for us.”

The runners have an entourage of two cyclists, two support drivers, two masseurs and a chef.

The group will arrive later today in Howlong, before stopping in Wangaratta tomorrow.
